Submitting to the Chrome Web Store

Publishing is a two-stage thing. The first submission goes through the Chrome Web Store dashboard, and every update after that can be done from PlugThis in one click.

Before you can submit

Open the Readiness tab. It tracks what a submission needs and will not let you download the package until the required items are done:

• A detailed listing description, which you can generate.

• A single purpose description.

• A permission justification for each permission your extension requests.

• Privacy disclosures analysed.

The counter tells you how many are outstanding. Amber notes under privacy disclosures are advisory rather than blocking.

The first submission

1. Click Download ZIP.

2. Open the Chrome Web Store Console and click New item, then upload the zip.

3. Paste in the single purpose description, the detailed description, and each permission justification from the panels in PlugThis.

4. Upload the promo screenshots from the Store assets tab.

5. Set a category and submit for review.

Review usually takes a few days.

Linking your listing, once

After that first submission, open your item in the Chrome Web Store dashboard and copy its Item ID, the long string of letters in the URL. Paste it into PlugThis and save it.

Every update after that

One click. Make your changes, then Upload to Web Store, and it goes straight to your listing.

Why the first one has to be manual

Chrome's API cannot create a brand new listing, only update an existing one. So the first publish is a one-time dashboard step. Once the Item ID is linked, you never have to do it again.
